PROCLAMATION NO. 1006


DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM JUNE 23 TO 29, 1997 AS “PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION WEEK”


WHEREAS,

the gains of the country in being recognized as a “new tiger economy” in Asia must be preserved, protected and sustained;


WHEREAS,

public administration has a critical role to play in performing this challenge;


WHEREAS,

it is imperative to provide a venue for dialogue among those engaged in the study and practice of public administration to define new directions for pragmatic and scholarly implications of these challenges;


WHEREAS,

it is necessary for those engaged in the practice and study of public administration to reflect on their roles in sustaining and enhancing their contribution to chart Philippine development efforts for socio-economic transformation;


WHEREAS,

as part of the celebration of its 45th anniversary, the U.P. College of Public Administration will hold the Fifth National Conference on Public Administration on June 26 to 27, 1997; and


WHEREAS,

there is a need to remind various sectors in civil society of their contributions and partnership with the public bureaucracy in forging our socio-economic transformation.


NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS,

President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare June 23 to 29, 1997 as Public Administration Week. The UP College of Public Administration is hereby designated to undertake such activities as may be relevant to raise public awareness on the critical role of public administration in the country’s socio-economic transformation.
