DECLARING THE EXISTENCE OF A STATE OF CALAMITY IN THE PROVINCE OF MARINDUQUE WHICH WAS ADVERSELY AFFECTED BY THE OVERFLOW OF MINE TAILINGS


WHEREAS

, the Province of Marinduque, was adversely affected by the overflow of mine tailings into the Makulapnit River from the Marcopper Mines, particularly in the Barangay of Hinapulan, Boac, Marinduque;


WHEREAS

, more or less 704 families or 3,500 persons living in nearby Brgy. Hinapulan were isolated due to the overflow of the Makulapnit River;


WHEREAS

, there is an urgent need for the declaration of a state of calamity in the area in order that the province may make use of its calamity funds for relief and other emergency rehabilitation work needed thereat.


NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS

, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare that a state of calamity exists in the Province of Marinduque.

All departments and other government agencies concerned are hereby directed to implement and execute relief and rehabilitation work in accordance with existing operational plans, directives and orders issued in connection with calamities.
