PROCLAMATION NO. 869

DECLARING THE FIRST WEEK OF OCTOBER OF EVERY YEAR AS MUNICIPAL MAYOR’S WEEK

WHEREAS,

Republic Act 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991 was enacted in October 10, 1991, bestowing ample powers to local government units to enable them to attain their fullest development as self-reliant communities and make them more effective partners in the attainment of national goals;

WHEREAS,

the decentralization program has greatly re-shaped our countryside, with our municipal mayors on the frontline playing a role model in making our municipalities develop along the national government’s vision of “Philippines 2000”;

WHEREAS,

the country’s municipalities are united under the aegis of their national organization, the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, ably represented in this body by their Municipal Mayors;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS,

President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the first week of October of every year as “Municipal Mayors’ Week” under the auspices of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP). The LMP shall be responsible for the appropriate celebrations which shall include the giving of due recognition to outstanding municipal mayors in bringing about progressive and dynamic local communities.

I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
