PROCLAMATION NO. 1022

DECLARING THE MONTH OF JUNE OF EVERY YEAR AS INJURY PREVENTION AND CONTROL MONTH

WHEREAS

, the nation recognizes the primacy and sanctity of life and the maintenance of good health as vital and indispensable to the well-being of the people and to the success of nation-building;

WHEREAS

, Filipinos at the age when the level of production is greatest, are the most common victims of injuries;

WHEREAS

, the care of the injured takes a great toll on the people’s already meager resources;

WHEREAS

, trauma is a highly preventable disease and it is essential that public attention be drawn and awareness be focused on the magnitude and the implications of this public health problem;

WHEREAS

, public support for the control and prevention of injury will contribute to the reduction of incidents resulting in injuries;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS

, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the month of June of every year as Injury Prevention and Control Month under the joint auspices of the Department of Health, Philippine College of Surgeons and the Philippine Society for the Surgery of Trauma who shall undertake coordinated activities to increase the public’s level of awareness on the need for adequate injury prevention and control measures.
