PROCLAMATION NO. 1204

DECLARING THE MONTH OF JUNE OF EVERY YEAR AS NATIONAL DENGUE AWARENESS MONTH

WHEREAS, Dengue is now an emerging/re-emerging disease of global concern and considered as the most important vector — borne viral disease affecting mankind;

WHEREAS, the incidence of Dengue fever/Dengue hemorrhagic fever in the country commonly affects children causing anguish, pain and economic burden to their parents and the country;

WHEREAS, the Department of Health has formulated the National Dengue Prevention and Control Program (NDPCP) to reduce morbidity and mortality due to Dengue so that it will no longer be a public health problem;

WHEREAS, Administrative Order No. 281 established the Tepok Lamok — Dengue Sapok Program nationwide and launched the program with the observance of the 4 o’clock habit during the rainy season to strengthen the NDPCP;

WHEREAS, the rainy season, which starts in June, leads to proliferation of mosquito breeding sites resulting to seasonal increase in dengue cases;

WHEREAS, prevention and control of Dengue will require concerted and collaborative efforts among the various national and local government agencies and the private sector;

WHEREAS, this concerted and collaborative undertaking should be developed as a regular habit;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the month of June of every year starting this year 1998 as the National Dengue Awareness Month.

In line with this Proclamation, all National Agencies, Local Government Units, including the NGO’s, PO’s and private sector shall collaborate with the Department of Health and give full support to all the activities to be undertaken every June during the celebration of the National Dengue Awareness Month.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
