PROCLAMATION NO. 897

DECLARING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 1996 AS ASIAN WUSHU CHAMPIONSHIPS MONTH

WHEREAS, Proclamation No. 320, series of 1994 declared the period from 1990 to 2000 as the “Decade of Physical Fitness and Sports”:

WHEREAS, the 4th Asian Wushu Championships is scheduled to be held from 11-17 November 1996 in Manila;

WHEREAS, the said Championships will see the participation of about 22 countries with an expected attendance of a sizable number of athletes and officials;

WHEREAS, the hosting of the “4th Asian Wushu Championships” will likewise serve as an enormous opportunity to showcase the country as a major tourist destination and to invite the world to visit the Philippines;

WHEREAS, to ensure the success of this sporting event, the cooperation of both public and private sectors is essential;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the month of November 1996 as 4th Asian Wushu Championships Month. The organizing committee of the 4th Asian Wushu Championships is directed to act as the lead agency in planning, disseminating information and conducting the said sporting events.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
