PROCLAMATION NO. 606


DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM JUNE 27 TO JULY 3, 1995 AS “ASIAN

OLYMPIC WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS WEEK”


WHEREAS

, Proclamation No. 406, Series of 1989, declared the period 1990 to 2000 as the DECADE OF PHYSICAL FITNESS AND SPORTS”;


WHEREAS

, the Philippines in the past years has never been bestowed the rare and much coveted honor to host the 11th ASIAN GRECO-ROMAN and FREESTYLE WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS; the 1st ASIA-OCEANIA JUNIOR FREESTYLE WRESTLING CUP from September 17-19, 1995, and the 3rd ASIA-OCEANIA SENIOR FREESTYLE WRESTLING CUP  from September 21-23, 1995, by the Federation Internationale De Lutte Amateur (FILA); Asian Associated Wrestling Committee and the Wrestling Association of the Philippines;


WHEREAS

, the 11th ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS in the Philippines was designated by the FILA as the qualifying round for the Asian Wrestlers in the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A.;


WHEREAS

, the hosting of the 11th ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS, the 1st ASIA-OCEANIA JUNIOR FREESTYLE WRESTLING CUP, as well as the 3rd ASIAN-OCEANIA WRESTLING CUP, are opportune occasions to showcase the country’s economic progress and development and tourism destinations;


WHEREAS

, it is common knowledge that the success of these high caliber championships will be insured only by the support and cooperation of the private and public sector;


NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS,

President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from June 27 to July 3, 1995 as the “ASIAN OLYMPIC WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS WEEK” and direct the Organizing Committee to act as the lead agency in planning, marketing disseminating information and conducting the wrestling championships.
