PROCLAMATION NO. 817

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM OCTOBER 13 TO 19, 1996, AS “LIFE INSURANCE CONSCIOUSNESS WEEK”

WHEREAS, life insurance provides Filipino families with services and benefits for financial protection and peace of mind in times of need and when the families’ income earners pass away or become incapacitated;

WHEREAS, the life insurance industry is a major contributor to the social and economic development of our country, particularly in support of our government’s thrust to generate meaningful long-term savings;

WHEREAS, despite these services, benefits and contribution to our country’s social and economic well-being that life insurance can provide, the majority of our population are still not covered by life insurance;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from October 13 to 19, 1996 as “Life Insurance Consciousness Week” under the auspices of the Philippine Life Insurance Association, Inc.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
