Sa pagkakataong ito ay binabati ko ang mga mamamayan ng daigdig, lalo na ang mga Pilipino na nasa ibang bansa, at yayain kayong lahat na makiisa sa pagdiriwang ng pinaka-mahalagang yugto sa kasaysayan ng lahing Pilipino — ang dantaon ng paghahayag ng kasarinlan ng Pilipinas — sa Hunyo 12, 1998.

The year 1998 marks the most significant event in the Filipino nation’s history — the Centennial Celebration of Philippine Independence: a heroic milestone which took one hundred years to complete. And today, as we remain vigilant in preserving our hard-earned sovereignty, we shall pay tribute to the countless Filipino men and women who dedicated their lives to liberate our country from our long time colonizers.

1998 is also the year when The Filipino Channel (TFC) celebrates its fourth year in operations. In only a short span of time, TFC has committed itself to serve millions of Filipinos worldwide through world-class programs whichmake them feel closer to home. This modern-day heroism in the field of broadcast media definitely makes TFC a vital partner in the Filipino nation’s quest for global excellence toward the 21st century.

As we celebrate these two momentous occasions, I am encouraging all our “kababayans” in every part of the world to hang the Philippine Flag in your homes. Ipagmalaki natin sa buong mundo na tayo’y Pilipino.
