In a world where change is constant and information is the new currency of the times, our country depends more and more on broadcasting in order to keep track of what is happening in our society and throughout the world. For us, communications is an important tool for national development because we are an open society and we believe in the people’s right to know.
This indispensable service of broadcasting to national life is what we celebrate today on this 23rd Anniversary of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas (KBP).
Through the years, the KBP has evolved into both an effective protector and steward of the broadcast media. On the one hand, it has pushed for the rights of broadcasters as channels of information. On the other, it has worked to professionalize the broadcast media and make them a more responsible institution in our democratic society.
Now as we look toward the future, when the Philippines is fully part of Asia-Pacific dynamism, we will have even greater need for an engaged, professional and modern broadcast industry.
To all the members of the KBP and the men and women in broadcasting who keep our people well-informed and make democracy an everyday reality, my congratulations.
More power and Mabuhay!
