I commend the ABS-CBN Foundation for initiating a noteworthy project such as “Bantay Bata 163”. Indeed, there has never been a more auspicious time for a project of this nature to be undertaken.

I share your concern for the protection and promotion of the welfare of the Filipino child. And I am happy that you have been able to synergize and solicit the support and commitment of Secretary Lina Laigo and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Secretary Teofisto Guingona and the Department of Justice, and Secretary Robert Barbers and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

I likewise commend the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), private corporations, and other agencies that have given their valuable support to the “Bantay Bata” project, especially PLAN International, UNICEF, Rotary International, PLDT, and Bayantel. Maganda ito… even business competitors are working together in the name of public service.

Even now as President of the Republic of the Philippines, I have only the highest regard for Filipino children. That is why as both father and grandfather, I have taken pains to give only the best to my children — and now, my grandchildren. Just as the future looks bright for Philippine economy, let us make the future a world of hope, love and peace for our children. For truly, I believe that even when children make up only 47% of our population, they make up a 100% of our future.
